Rose Training’s WHS hero Serge Rossignol debunks three WHS myths in the corporate office.
In this blog, Serge looks at three common white-collar beliefs when it comes to WHS and why they are wrong. These myths are bounced about in many arenas where high quality training and assessment should be a valuable resource! At Rose Training Australia, we are passionate about training and education. We believe that high quality workplace health and safety makes the difference between somebody walking out of a registered training organisation as great trainers, not just walking out with just a WHS certificate.
b. I can decanter some cleaning fluids into an unmarked container and keep it under the sink in the office kitchen.
WRONG – All chemicals and liquids follow strict guidelines. There are special rules to follow regarding the labelling of decanted liquids and chemicals. Material Safety Data Sheets also have to be kept for all chemicals in an office.
c. Its OK to play a practical joke on someone new in the office.
WRONG – Harassment of any type to anyone is not tolerated in any workplace. Businesses should have a thorough induction process for all new workers where an acceptable code of conduct explained.
At Rose Training we know the importance of a good laugh at the workplace. That’s why we hire people to write hilarious blogs and post wickedly funny memes on our Facebook page. Additionally, we are just generally funny people to be around (that’s why you will probably hear echoing laughter if you come to our Ann Street office. Don’t be creeped out). But we also know is that there is a WH&S boundary we cannot cross when it comes to amusing ourselves at our colleagues’ expense.
So the next time someone tries to tell you that training is simply talking about a topic on which you are knowledgeable, quickly direct them to Rose Training Australia where we will show them that it is so much more! At Rose Training Australia, our motto is ‘helping you shape your future’; that’s something we wholeheartedly believe and try to embody in all of our training. Helping someone shape their future is what training and education is all about.
